Why most expense trackers lose you at entry
People quit tracking when logging feels like paperwork. Standing at a checkout with a ten-field modal open is enough to make anyone close the app and promise to do it later.
Cash Captain Quick Entry accepts what you would actually type: a number, a merchant, maybe yesterday or last friday. And when logging takes a few seconds, the habit has a chance to stick.
How Quick Entry parses your line
Open Quick Entry from the New Transaction button, Command+N, or the command palette. Type one line and the parser reads amount, currency, merchant, and relative dates as you go.
Category suggestions pull from your own merchant history first. Repeat payees like grab or spotify fill in faster over time. Ambiguous symbols like $ remember the currency you picked last time.
- Expenses, income (+ prefix), and transfers parse from the same field
- 150+ ISO codes (USD, PHP, VND, BRL, and more) plus symbols (₱, €, £, S$) are recognized
- Relative dates like yesterday, last friday, and apr 1 work inline
Preview before anything hits your ledger
Parsed results land in a preview panel, not straight into your register. Adjust account, category, tags, or date before confirming. Edit the text and the preview updates live.
Recurring bills use a checkbox in the preview instead of hidden syntax. Everyday coffee runs stay fast, and you can still turn a payment into a recurring rule in the same flow.
Built for manual tracking on purpose
Cash Captain does not pull transactions from your bank. You choose what gets recorded, which suits people who want a ledger they trust over an auto-imported feed they still have to clean up.

FAQ
- Do I have to get every field right in the text box?
- No. Quick Entry is a fast first draft. The preview panel lets you fix account, category, amount, or date before you save.
- Can Quick Entry log income and transfers too?
- Yes. Prefix income with + (for example, +45,000 salary) and describe transfers with transfer from Account A to Account B.
- How do recurring bills work?
- Check Make recurring in the preview after parsing. Cash Captain asks for cadence and schedule details separately. Recurrence is not parsed from the text line.
- What currencies are supported?
- Over 150 ISO currencies — basically every currency you would use in real life. Type the code after the amount (USD, PHP, VND, BRL) or use symbols like $, €, £, ₱, and prefixed markers like S$. If Quick Entry does not recognize a code, the preview flags it so you can pick a valid currency before saving.
