See where your money went on one board
9 mins read | August 9, 2026
Cash Captain Insights is a visualization board built from your logged transactions. Filter by period and accounts, then read category breakdown, spending over time, income versus expenses, net cash flow, top merchants, tag leaderboard, upcoming recurring bills, budget pace, and savings rate. Tap any total to drill into the transactions behind it.
Where did my money go?
That question usually means: which categories ate the budget, which merchants repeat, and whether the trend is getting worse. Insights answers with widgets you can scope to this month, the last six months, or specific accounts.
Category breakdown shows a donut of expense share by category. Top merchants ranks where you spend by payee. Spending over time plots expenses month by month so spikes are obvious without exporting to a spreadsheet.
Income, expenses, and net cash flow
The Income vs expenses widget compares what came in against what went out across the last six months. That is the classic am-I-living-within-my-means view.
Net cash flow summarizes this month with a sparkline and optional comparison to the prior period. Savings rate shows the percentage of income left after expenses when both sides have data. Neither widget forecasts the future or connects to net worth. Those are separate surfaces in the app.
Set scope once or per widget
The global scope bar sets period and accounts for the whole board. Individual widgets can override scope when you need six months on spending over time but this month on category breakdown.
Select any bar, slice, or total to open drill-down: a paginated transaction list filtered to that slice. Close the panel and the board stays where you left it.
Worked example: end-of-month review
Sam opens Insights with This month and all checking accounts selected. Category breakdown shows Food at 32% of spending. They tap the slice and confirm three delivery charges they forgot to log.
They switch to Income vs expenses for the last six months. Expenses crept up in June. Budget pace shows Transport over plan by ₱1,200. They log the missing transactions with Quick Entry, then adjust next month's transport planned amount on the Budget page. The charts already named the problem.
FAQ
- Do I need a budget to use Insights?
- No. Most widgets run on transactions alone. Budget pace specifically needs an active budget period for the month you are viewing.
- Can I change which widgets appear?
- The board ships with default widgets. Layout customization is limited today. Treat the default set as what this page describes.
- How is Insights different from the old Analytics page?
- Insights replaced Analytics with server-side queries, consistent scoping, drill-down, and the widget set listed above. See the Insights launch changelog for the full migration story.
- Does Insights tell me what to do with my money?
- No. It shows totals, trends, and the transactions behind them. Decisions stay yours.
