Week 3: Category Groups and Budgets

330 users by the end of Week 3.

Categories finally got a proper hierarchy. Food & Drinks, Transportation, Entertainment, each with real subcategories underneath. Transaction picking and budget setup are actually scannable now.

Then I shipped budgets. Pick how you earn, allocate across categories, and watch actuals fill in from your transactions. Received mode budgets what hit your account. Expected mode lets you plan a fixed amount upfront.

This is the week Cash Captain stopped feeling like a tracker and started feeling like a planner.

v0.5.1
New

Monthly budget

Set up a monthly budget with income tracking and expense allocation by category. Choose received mode (budget what actually hit your account) or expected mode (budget a fixed amount upfront). Actuals update from your transactions. Works on mobile too.

New

Category groups

Categories organize into groups like Food & Drinks, Transportation, and Entertainment, each with subcategories so spending is easier to break down.

Improved

Grouped category picker

When logging a transaction, categories show grouped by their parent. Income and expense categories stay separated so you cannot pick the wrong type.

New

Simple or detailed setup

New users pick between a Simple or Detailed template when setting up. No more flat list of random categories.

Improved

Apple home screen icon

Cash Captain looks right when saved to your iOS home screen.
