Week 3: Category Groups + Budgets

Categories got a complete overhaul with proper grouping, and we shipped a full budgeting system so you can actually plan your money.

327 users now! This week was all about giving you real tools to manage your money, not just track it. Categories got a proper hierarchy with groups like Food & Drinks, Transportation, and Entertainment. And we shipped budgets. Pick how you earn (fixed salary or as-it-comes-in), allocate across your categories, and watch actuals fill in automatically from your transactions. This is the feature that turns Cash Captain from a tracker into a planner.

v0.5.1
New

Monthly budget screen

Set up a monthly budget with income tracking and expense allocation by category. Choose between received mode (budget what's actually hit your account) or expected mode (budget a fixed amount upfront). Actuals update automatically from your transactions.

Improved

Budget sections are mobile responsive

Income, expenses, goals, and debts sections all work properly on smaller screens.

New

Category groups

Categories are now organized into groups like Food & Drinks, Transportation, and Entertainment. Each group has proper subcategories so your spending is way more granular.

Improved

Grouped category picker

When logging a transaction, categories are shown grouped by their parent. Income and expense categories are separated so you can't accidentally pick the wrong type.

New

Onboarding templates

New users pick between a Simple or Detailed template when setting up. No more flat list of random categories.

Improved

Apple home screen icon

Added a proper touch icon so Cash Captain looks right when saved to your iOS home screen.

Improved

Cleaner transaction badges

Removed the type icons from transaction cards for a cleaner look.
